Quantifying the contribution of arm postural tremor to the outcome of goal-directed pointing task by displacement measures.

A method for quantifying the outcome of goal-directed postural pointing was presented and used for relating the tremor output to the oscillations of single arm landmarks. The displacement of reflective markers placed on shoulder, upper arm, forearm, and hand were measured by an optoelectronic motion capture system in nine subjects holding a laser penlight pointed at a target. The high signal-to-noise ratio of the measured displacement series (from 7:1 for shoulder marker to 30:1 for hand marker) demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed system to carry out tremor analysis. Identification of a specific type of PD from acoustic emission frequency spectra

The paper presents an attempt to apply spectral analysis tools in processing acoustic emission (AE) pulses generated by partial discharge (FD). The experimental part of the paper describes spark gaps generating four types of PD and specifies parameters of measured acoustic signals and recalls the system used for measurement and analysis of the frequency spectra. Also, a spectral analysis procedure is presented, and frequency-domain descriptors characterizing AE pulses are defined. Comparative analysis of acoustic emission signals generated by electrical discharges measured by the hydrophone and the wideband contact transducer

The paper presents a comparative analysis of the acoustic emission (AE) pulses and signals generated by PDs. For this purpose the measurements of the acoustic emission signals generated by PDs were taken in the multipoint-plane system using a hydrophone placed directly in the area of discharge generation, and the AE pulses using a piezoelectric contact transducer which was on a side wall of a power transformer tub. Next, time runs and amplitude density spectra were drawn. Also the descriptors describing signals in the frequency domain were determined and the time-frequency analysis was carried out, which determined spectrograms for the energy density spectrum.
Architecture of a digital PFM controller for IC implementation

This paper presents a digital controller architecture oriented to IC implementation. The classical digital pulse width modulator (D-PWM), using digital analog converter (DAC), is replaced with a Sigma-Delta (/spl Sigma//spl Delta/) modulator based on pulse frequency modulator (PFM) technique. Although the presence of significant coupling between cardiovascular variability series is usually verified according to the threshold value of 0.5 in the coherence function (CF), spectral estimator parameters should also be considered. In this study, the surrogate data technique was introduced to define the level of significance of the CF. The proposed method determined a frequency-dependent threshold over which the hypothesis of zero coherence was rejected. Two experimental coherent Raman techniques, stimulated Raman and coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS), were employed to study the Raman spectrum of CF 4 in the 900 cm −1 region. The stimulated Raman and CARS spectra of the ν 1 band of CF 4 were recorded at high resolution. The analysis of these spectra enabled some spectroscopic constants of this band to be refined and higher order constants to be determined for the first time. The first high-resolution CARS spectrum of the 2ν 2 (A 1 ) harmonic band is also presented. Introducción: La estabilidad primaria del implante dental está relacionada con el hueso que se encuentra en contacto con él y se puede medir mediante el análisis de frecuencia de resonancia. Material y métodos: En 133 implantes (62 en maxilar y 71 en mandíbula) se midió la frecuencia de resonancia y la fuerza de inserción para conocer la estabilidad de los implantes el día de la cirugía, y estudiar su relación con distintas variables. Resultados: El cociente de estabilidad del implante obtenido el día de la cirugía fue de 62’1 y el de la fuerza de inserción fue de 35’7 Nw. An original way to evaluate daily rainfall variability simulated by a regional climate model: the case of South African austral summer rainfall

We discuss the value of a clustering approach as a tool for evaluating daily rainfall output from climate models. Ascendant hierarchical clustering is used to evaluate how well South African recurrent daily rainfall patterns are simulated during the austral summer (December to February 1970–1971 to 1998–1999). A set of 35-km regional climate simulations, run with the WRF model and driven by the ERA40 reanalysis, is chosen as a case study. Six recurrent patterns are identified and compared to the observed clusters obtained by applying the same methodology to 5352 daily rain gauge records.
